By Bruce Claflin,
A few short weeks ago approximately 70 area boaters left the Rivers and Lakes in exchange for the golf course to raise money for a cause. The cause, Folds of Honor. The event, The St. Croix Marinas Golf Outing. Troy Burne golf course in Hudson, WI. hosted this year’s event, and did so in very fine fashion.
Organizers from Bayport, Sunnyside, St. Croix, Afton, and Windmill Marinas were behind the day of fun and fund raising.
For the unaware, Folds of Honor is a National charity whose sole mission is to provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of our fallen and disabled service-members. Their motto is “Honor Their Sacrifice. Educate Their Legacy”.
This year, Folds of Honor and The National Marina Association created ‘National Marina Days’, a summer of giving for Marinas and their members. This event was part of that effort.
Cliff Lewis of Bayport Marina and one of the event organizers has vowed that this will be an annual outing. Key employees from all the St. Croix River Marinas are planning to meet over the winter months to get started planning the 2018 version of this very nice event.
The course was in impeccable shape and the participants all enjoyed the golf, the sunshine, the excellent meal, and the camaraderie. Best of all was the opportunity to spend an afternoon playing golf with friends and raising money for a great cause.
A big shout out to Cliff Lewis, Rick Chapman, Jim Clemens, Glenn Bowmann, Jeff Holmes, and all the hard working volunteers who put the day together! Watch the pages of Scuttlebutt for an announcement on next summer’s event. It’s worth checking out, and I’m sure next year will be even bigger and better!
