$1.5 million state loan to create Marquis Yachts jobs
Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle recently announced that the state would provide up to $1.5 million in loans to create 315 jobs at Marquis Yachts. About a year ago what was then Carver Yachts in Pulaski, Wis., filed for bankruptcy. The plant has been shut down since December.
John Paul Dejoria and Irwin Jacobs bought Marquis at the Genmar bankruptcy auction. Jacobs said, “We’re spending on tooling, we’re spending on equipment, on R&D, engineering, and bringing people back — and making a big investment in people,” he said. “We’re only 100 days old. We have five production lines running here [in Pulaski, Wis]. We’re not only up and running but I have great optimism on where we are going.”
Gov. Doyle said the state is working with a number of other businesses in the state with similar loans aimed at getting people back to work.
