Minnesota Boat Museum gets Falls Flyers
The Antique & Classic Boat Museum & Shop in Willmar, Minn., now has about 25 Larson Falls Flyers on display. The boat collection of Paul Mikkelson ranges from one of the first Falls Flyers to be commercially produced in Little Falls by Paul Larson, to one of the last models from Larson before the company was sod in the 1960s.
“What I've tried to do is preserve some of the history of Minnesota and upper Midwest boating,” said Mikkelson, who has built up the collection over the last 12 years. “You can go to the antique boat museum in Clayton, N.Y., and see gigantic mahogany behemoths but it isn’t the boating we had in Minnesota. These are the boats I grew up with and used on the lake. My boat has spent its whole life on Eagle Lake.”
