A second wine trail opened in March and includes nine wineries near Dubuque and Bellevue, Iowa; Galena and Hanover, Illinois; and Platteville and Fennimore, Wisconsin. It is part of the Upper Mississippi River Valley American Viticulture Area which was designated in June 2009 and occupies the Driftless Area of the Upper Mississippi. The Great River Road Wine Trail is also part of the system, with 10 wineries in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
