Lock and Dam 5A will host open house
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will host an open house at Lock and Dam 5A, which is located near Fountain City, Wis., Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Corps’ open house is in conjunction with the Fountain City, Wis., Lions Club celebration from Aug. 13-15.
Lock and Dam 5A is located at Mississippi River mile marker 728.5. It was constructed in 1932 and consists of a concrete structure 110 feet wide by 600 feet long. During the 2009 navigation season, 7,360 vessels and 7,995,081 tons of cargo passed through Lock and Dam 5A.
